Three years ago, on my eighteenth birthday, my mother was not able to go to work, nor was she able to prepare something for me because she was sick. Not that I was used to extravagant birthdays anyways. I told her it was okay, but she cried after greeting me and hugged me. We ended up crying on what was supposed to be the happiest day of my life. Now, I will spend my first birthday without her.

He had stayed late for the Ecology project he was supposed to turn in the next day and did not even realize that it had took him three hours to assuage the problems in the project. Being alone, he said to himself, has its downsides too. Especially when he had to finish a project meant for three persons to complete within the day.
